ALMOST 100 members and friends have attended a National Trust Casey Cardinia Branch gala dinner.
Branch president Ruth Crofts said National Trust of Victoria chief executive Martin Purslow was the guest speaker at the 26 June event at Clover Cottage in Berwick.
He spoke about his beginnings in the United Kingdom, the problems and challenges faced in “breathing new life into historic buildings” and some of the trust’s many new projects.
National Trust senior conservation manager Paul Roser spoke about the Gallipoli Oaks Project that would involve all Victorian Primary schools in 2015.
Also attending the dinner were representatives from the National Trust board of directors, former directors and senior staff.
“I was particularly honoured to have the mayor of Cardinia, councillor Graeme Moore, and his wife Sue Moore joining us this year, and also Cardinia councillor Brett Owen,” Ms Crofts said.
“It is encouraging to have the Cardinia Council recognise the National Trust Branch in this way, and we value their co-operative approach.”
Ms Crofts said representatives from seven community groups attended and many were also National Trust Members, which form the basis of the local heritage network.
