22 Jump Street
Starring: Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Ice Cube

RARELY, ever so rarely in the field of entertainment, comes the sequel that is better than the original.
And that’s exactly the exalted status 22 Jump Street has vaulted into.
Faced with the potential of a clunky sequel, taking the original undercover cop idea from high school to college, and the address from 21-22 Jump Street, the producers have chosen to do this in a self-reverential way.
It openly mocks the stupidity of the plot, in a very engaging fashion.
But by far the best part of the film is the developing bromance between Jonah Hill, and the himbo who is so generic I can never remember whether his name is Channing Tatum or Tatum Channing.
Don’t worry too much about the name – the ladies like, irrespective of title.
Jonah was born for comedy – face and all – and the other bloke has surprisingly good comic timing.
But the really enjoyable factor is the way they play the part of an old married couple in regards to their buddy cop partnership status – even spending time with a counsellor.
Witness Hill’s shocked comment to Channing: “You … want us to investigate other people?”
Or the car chase through a sculpture park: “It’s entertaining … but so wasteful!”
There are many other very funny moments as well.
As light-hearted entertainment goes, there’s a lot to recommend this little beauty.
