SLOWDOWNS, fade-aways and rousing comebacks highlight this week’s edition of Inside 50 Words.

TAC CUP
Dandenong was lacklustre in its second-half slow-down against Western Jets, failing to fight back once the going got tough. Matt Homfray and Jacob Weitering held their own in the defensive end while the run-and-carry of Jack Lonie, Blake Mullane and Rourke Fischer was equally promising. Dandenong faces Geelong on Saturday.
The best efforts of Gippsland weren’t enough to halt Sandringham in a 35-point loss. Jordie Cunico and Josh Dunkley led the charge through the midfield while Cunico drilled a pair of goals to cap off his impressive day. Alex Carr was in the best to keep his stellar season going. Gippsland’s season finale is at home to the Western Jets on Sunday.

VFL
You can only wonder where Casey Scorpions’ off switch is located after another dying effort after half-time. Casey led by three points against Footscray at the main break before conceding a 27-point loss. Cam Pedersen will bounce back into the Melbourne side after a three-goal effort where he also pinch-hit in the ruck. Casey’s final game is against Coburg on Sunday.

CASEY CARDINIA
Cranbourne has locked away a double chance, with four late goals, in five minutes, securing a nine-point win over Pakenham. The Lions host Beaconsfield this week to decide third place on the ladder. Narre Warren champ, Kerem Baskaya, kicked 15 against Doveton to take his tally to 99 for the season.

ELLINBANK – WEST
It seemed finals came early in the West on Saturday with a pair of cracking contests between Nar Nar Goon and Kooweerup, and Garfield and Cora Lynn. The Cobras bounced back from a tough couple of weeks with an impressive win over the Stars, while Kooweerup knocked off The Goon.

ELLINBANK – EAST
Longwarry, Warragul Industrials and Buln Buln all recorded big wins on the eve of their finals campaigns out East. The Dusties produced a brilliant last quarter to beat fellow finalists, the Cats by 40. Buln annihilated Poowong by 98, while Longwarry was clinical in its 50-point defeat of Nyora.
