DESPITE the superb detective work done by two local stalwarts, the Emerald RSL is continuing its search for the photos of 13 fallen soldiers.
The construction of the Emerald Anzac Walk from the town centre, set to begin in September, will include eight information stands paying tribute to each of the 32 local diggers who gave their lives, including a brief personal memoir along with their photograph.
However the RSL is still 13 photos short.
The names of the soldiers are: Andreas Andreassen, Charles Spencer Barnes, Harrie Hasler Barnes, William Thomas Clark, Percy John Curtis Coates, Malcolm John Colliss, Harold Coulson, James Adolphus Edgcumbe, Harold George Hales, Francis Angus Moffatt, Harold Hill Parker, James Harold Russell and Stanley Sydney Sawers.
Plans are also afoot for a new memorial Anzac Place near the RSL, and the installation of a statue of the ‘Unknown Soldier’, and the planting of a Gallipoli Lone Pine.
An Avenue of Honour was planted in Heroes Avenue, Emerald, to commemorate the 32 local diggers who lost their lives in WWI, however it was razed to develop the area and was not replaced.
