WILDLIFE carers in Tynong and Pakenham have been given a financial boost as they continue to protect and nurture the Cardinia Shire’s native wildlife.
The latest round of the State Government’s $212,700 Wildlife Rehabilitator Grants has provided $500 for Tynong wildlife carer Carmel Hails and her five animals.
Mrs Hails said the funds would provide formula and feed for her possums and wallabies.
“I’ve got five little possums and two little wallabies at the moment,” she said.
“This money will provide milk powder for my animals.”
Mrs Hails operates out of her Forrest property, after being trained up at the Maryknoll Wildlife Shelter.
“They were marvellous, I had to do a couple of years of strict training before I could go out on my own,” she said.
A Pakenham wildlife carer also received $2000 for animal rehabilitation for possums and enclosures for joeys.
