Improvements on the horizon

COMMUNITY assets and pedestrian and bike links around the Cardinia Shire will be enhanced following several grants announced by Gembrook MP Brad Battin.
$42,036 will go to community groups in Upper Beaconsfield and Emerald under the latest round of the Local Landscape Enhancement grants.
The fund will provide $9026 for the Friends of Salisbury Gully towards a gully restoration project, and $32,830 for the Emerald Scout Group for the Hogan Park Community and Conservation enhancement project.
“These local projects deliver on-ground measures that will support our local community,” Mr Battin said.
Meanwhile Cardinia Shire Council’s Bike Strategy has received a $30,000 boost, which will improve bike tracks and walking and pedestrian access to shops, public transport and community services.
Mr Battin said the funding from the latest round of the Sport and Recreation Community Grants would allow council to put in a long term plan focusing on future growth, town planning and locations of schools, with five families each and every day moving into the area.
“Cardinia Shire is looking at the best solutions for connecting people across the shire, this includes walking and pedestrian access to shops, public transport and community services,” he said.
“A vital link is a footpath or bike track that connects people to services and importantly gives options for getting around that may encourage exercise and preventative health measures.”
