A PASSIONATE environment worker will exchange ideas with like-minded people in Turkey as part of a Rotary Group Study Exchange (GSE) program next year.

Jenny Randall from Narre Warren was chosen for the overseas program thanks to the Rotary Club of Berwick who successfully sponsored her as a potential team member with the District GSE Committee. Jenny has been an environmental consultant for the past seven years, focussing on creating a sustainable energy future for the country.
But her passion for the environment began long before she stepped into the role.
“Interestingly, Jenny’s enthusiasm for science was fuelled as a Year 11 student, by her sponsorship by the Rotary Club of Berwick to participate in a National Youth Science Program in 2003,” Berwick Rotary’s public relations director Sam McCurdy said.
The program will see Jenny exchange jobs with someone from Turkey in the hope learning new international ideas and customs may broaden her approach toward tackling environmental issues locally.
“She looks forward to reporting back to the club members early next year on a very interesting and informative exchange program.”
The Rotary Club of Berwick has selected 16-year-old Benjamin Mackinlay from Haileybury College in Berwick to attend the National Youth Services Forum in Canberra in January next year and hope he may be just as inspired as Jenny was following her experience 11 years ago.
“This national not-for-profit organisation … aims to nurture and encourage young Australians to be the next generation of leading scientists and engineers supporting a sustainable future for our nation,” Mr McCurdy said.
“The experience Jenny gained at the forum confirmed that she wanted to pursue a scientific career.”
