Prices up on improved demand

IMPROVED demand, all be it a slight improvement, resulted in a lift for all categories last Wednesday at Baw Baw Livestock Exchange, Warragul.
Bullocks and heifers saw larger numbers yarded with quality on par with the last few sales. Steers were similar in numbers with a slight improvement in weight and quality and there were fewer vealers penned, which sold to firm demand.
The yard average was 171.5.
Bullocks made to 184, up eight, and averaged 166.9, up two; heifers made to 205, up 20, and averaged 163, up 12; steers made to 195, up seven, and averaged 166, up three; and vealers made to 228, up four, and averaged 181.4, up two.
The Thursday bull and cow sale also saw demand improve with the yard averaging two cents up at 144.7 cents. Extra bulls were penned with 33 on offer and reaching a top price of 217.6 cents to average 168.0. This was back on the previous week by seven cents as there were some light bulls present, and cows sold to a top of 171.6, up 10 cents on the previous sale to average 139.4, up three cents.
