WEST GIPPSLAND TENNIS ASSOCIATION
REPRESENTATIVES from all nine of the midweek teams were present to watch the ladies’ final held at the Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre last week.
Perfect conditions ensured a fantastic battle between Nar Nar Goon and Pakenham. Both teams had been very strong throughout the entire season and always enjoyed very competitive matches against each other.
Melinda Motta and Belinda Quarrell of Nar Nar Goon, started strong with an 8-5 victory over Pakenham’s Emma Osborne and Tayla Fahey. After the second set it was dead even as mother and daughter combo Rose Paccagnan and Ann Molino of Pakenham defeated Nar Nar Goon’s Mel Nooy and Carolyn Ould 8-5.
However Pakenham managed to push that bit harder and secure the following third, fourth and fifth sets 8-6, 8-4, 8-5. Nar Nar Goon came back in the sixth set with Belinda Quarrell and Penny Van Roy lifting to defeat mother daughter pair Tina and Tayla Fahey 8-2.Ultimately Pakenham won four sets 39 games to Nar Nar Goons two sets 36 games.
Both teams displayed great sportsmanship and skill in what was a great match to finish off a fantastic year of ladies’ midweek tennis.
