GARFIELD GOLF

SANTA arrived very early for Ronnie Fielding this week as he stormed to victory in the December monthly medal by shooting a 62 nett off his handicap of 17 defeating Luke Kneebone who shot a 65 nett off his handicap of 13. Barrie Cousin has had a great recent run and kept it going by scoring 65 nett off his handicap of 29. Both Shane Szybkowski and Pieter Van der Horst scored eagles on Saturday to win a dozen balls each. Shane drove the par-four second while Pieter scored three on the par-five 17th.
The club’s major Christmas raffle, which features 10 prize draws totalling $3000, is drawn on 14 December. First prize is a large stocking chocker block of gifts. Tickets are available at $2 each at the club or Garfield Country Style meats.
The club has now obtained sponsorship for all the par-threes nearest the pin every Saturday with $10 vouchers. Sponsors are 4th Garfield Country Style Meats, 8th Beaconsfield/Drouin Home Hardware, 11th Goodies Charcoal Chicken at Berwick, 14th Mama Rosa Pizza at Pakenham, 16th Priceline at Pakenham and a $20 voucher courtesy of the Garfield Hotel for the 9th.
The club’s annual Top Gun event has now commenced with all scores achieved for white tee competition events being eligible by paying an entry fee of $15 per player. All scores are converted to stableford points and the top 19 go through to the final which is played late February 2015. First prize is a personalised branded golf bag to the value of $400. Prizes are awarded down to fifth place. This has been a very popular event in past years so join in the fun.
Players are invited to enter the upcoming Stephen Shield which is an open mixed Canadian event this Sunday (14 December) with a rolling start from 10am. Entry is $20 per player which includes a delightful home cooked afternoon tea.
LADIES
The ladies held their annual challenge with Berwick Montuna in perfect weather this week, played at Garfield with 32 ladies representing their clubs. The top-six scores from each club were added up to determine the winner with Garfield coming out tops with a final score of 212 stableford points to Berwick Montuna’s 205 points. The annual shield is now tied with two victories each for both clubs.
