A PAKENHAM women’s club has welcomed its new president for 2015. Heather Kleesh has been named the incoming president for the Pakenham Branch Country Women’s Association of Victoria.
The group has raised over $4000 which it donated towards various kindergartens and schools, the Outlook choir, Millhaven Lodge, MECWA and the Community Garden as well as awarded two students from Pakenham Secondary College with scholarships.
Branch members had an exciting year visiting a range of sites such as the Light Horse and Field Artillery Museum in Nar Nar Goon, the Queen Elizabeth Centre in Noble Park as well as a mysterious bus ride around inner Melbourne.
Over the course of the year, knitting, crocheting and sewing work was sent off each month to the group’s head office to be distributed to needy children locally and overseas.
Club members take great pleasure in teaching the craft to students at Pakenham Hills Primary School each Thursday.
Pakenham Hall hosted the West Gippsland Group Arts and Craft Exhibition which was well attended by seven different branches.
In July, the branch’s Elizabeth MacKenzie was awarded a Green Star for her Table Centre Dresden Style embroidery using 40 count linen at the state craft exhibition in South Morang.
Member Kathleen Langley said 2015 has many delights in store.
“We are looking forward to a busy but fun-filled year and will welcome new members in 2015 for friendship and activities,” she said.
Members meet at the Girl Guide Hall on Henry Street on the first Wednesday of every month (except January) at 10am. For information, contact Carol Clay on 5941 9039.
