AN irate Lakeside resident has called on Cardinia Shire to provide more bang for his rate-paying buck.
Mark Dalton said council had left an eyesore outside his Oaklands Way property after a section of footpath was covered in asphalt following maintenance works.
Mr Dalton had complained to council back in October that the footpath was a trip hazard.
However he said he felt short-changed with the results after spending nearly $2000 in rates.
“It’s a band-aid solution,” he said.
“We pay hefty rates here.
“These pen-pushers (at council) don’t know s*** from clay.”
Council Co-ordinator Operations Mark Howard promised the footpath would be replaced eventually.
“Council applies asphalt to pavements with the potential to cause trip hazards, as an interim measure until the section of footpath is replaced,” he said.
“Council staff have inspected the asphalt on the Oaklands Way footpath and found it in a safe condition.
“The asphalt will be replaced as part of the renewal program.”
However Mr Dalton said he expected better, living in a quality estate.
“If I wanted to live in Doveton, I would,” he said.
“This is clearly not good enough.
“I pay $1800 a year in rates, I expect a higher standard of service.
“On hot days the asphalt begins to crack. When they first covered the path around the stormwater pit, I could lift up the asphalt with my foot.
“I kicked the s*** out of it and it all came away.
“It’s an eyesore – if I wanted to sell, it’s like having a car with no wheels out the front.”
