THERE will be plenty of hair scattered across the ground at a Longwarry reserve next month as residents brave the shave in support of the Leukaemia Foundation.
Maria Main, 47, of Drouin, who has been touched by the woes associated with the blood cancer, will have her long brown locks shaved at the public event being held at the Recreation Reserve in Longwarry on Sunday 1 February.
“I am excited and a little nervous. I have plenty of hair and its driving me nuts. Wigs are important for women going through cancer,” she said.
The trucking enthusiast will be one of several members of the Trafalgar Truck Restorers Club to do their bit for the World’s Greatest Shave initiative, with some planning to cut their beard, colour their hair or even have their back shaved.
“He has quite a hairy back,” laughed Maria about her game comrade.
The first-time participant honours long-term friend Graham Cameron who has battled leukaemia cancer for years.
“He is a little humble about it all,” Maria said.
The public shave will co-incide with Trafalgar Truck Clubs 30th anniversary celebration event which will draw a range of vintage trucks and machinery to the grounds.
An auction will kick off the fundraising event which will attract a range of stalls.
Maria will be shaving her 30cm locks which she will then donate the ponytail to Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths program.
According to the Leukaemia Foundation, more than 12,000 Australians are diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma each year.
