The only race… for second

WDCA – Round 12 (day 2)

IT HAS become a race for second in WDCA’s Division 1 as Western Park (8/151dec and 1/36) made it nine-in-a-row with an outright domination of Yarragon (97 and 89).
Western Park decided the tonk was on the cards as everyone chipped in with a handful of runs. It led to a strong declaration after 37 overs before Yarragon went back in to face the music. Lasitha Amarasooriya (4/38) and Kade Burns (3/17) tore apart the visitors before blasting 36 off only four overs to take the emphatic outright triumph.
Close but no cigar for Ellinbank (159) against Neerim District (209) as a late-order tonk from Brad Berry (42) helped close the gap. Dane Fawcett (5/34) was far too good with the new rock as he claimed the five-wicket haul.
Hallora (128) was helpless against Drouin (292) as Simon Gardiner (5/38) stormed through the order to take his tally to 33 wickets for the season, while Buln Buln’s (322) barrage last week could not be matched by Bunyip (101).
In Division 2, Longwarry (9/267) held on to top of the table by a thread against Western Park (252) as Troy Lehman (3/51) and Aaron Thomas (3/106) scythed through the Parkers… just in time.
Iona (9/181dec) almost stole outright from Warragul (126 and 6/91) – on the back of strong 50s from Sam Vanderzalm (52) and Michael Taylor (60), Garfield-Tynong and Jindivick drew, while Hallora (146) seconds got one back on Drouin (142) to avenge the firsts’ loss as David Youlden (5/38) excelled with the red rock.
Division 3 was led by wins to Buln Buln, Yarragon and Jindivick while Neerim District drew with Ellinbank.
