CHESS COMPETITION
Inaugural U3A Cardinia Chess Competition
This was the first chess competition hosted by U3A Cardinia and U3A Cardinia Chess Club as part of the 2015 Parklea Pakenham and District Agricultural and Horticultural Show.
Cr Graeme Moore presented the winners with their prizes on behalf of the show committee.
President of U3A Cardinia Vanessa Van Gramberg said she would like to the thank the Pakenham Show Committee for its support of the inaugural U3A Cardinia Chess Competition and that U3A Cardinia hopes to run the event next year and make it even bigger and better after this year’s great response the high calibre of players in the area.
She also added that those who want to train for next year’s event or just want to learn or have a social game are welcome to join the U3A Cardinia Chess Club which meets weekly on Thursdays from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
Annual membership is only $35 for the year and all ages and abilities are welcome.
The competition is supervised by Len Slenders from the U3A Cardinia Chess Club.
The U3A Cardinia Chess club has been running for less than six months and already has about 20 members.
The first place winners collected a trophy, medallion, certificate, $50 cash and one year membership to U3A Cardinia Chess Club.
The second place winners received a medallion and certificate.
Players spent an entire day with five rounds to determine the winners for 2015.
