THE Bunyip and District Community Bank has awarded its first tertiary scholarship to a Tynong student excited to carry out his dreams in the science industry.
Swinburne University Bachelor of Science and Physics student Ryan Gorick was selected as the bank’s first scholarship recipient among three other first-year students.
Bank director Tony Ross said he was pleased to help the Tynong student overcome the financial hurdles of tertiary studies.
“Ryan is very deserving of this scholarship and will be a fine ambassador for the Bunyip and District community.”
The science student said he planned to channel all of his energies into his studies.
“I can’t wait to get started and work towards expanding my knowledge in the development of technology, particularly high speed and long distance communication systems,” he said.
“This scholarship means I will be able to focus on my studies more and worry less about the costs associated with travelling backwards and forwards.”
The scholarship, awarded to more than 206 students across Australia this year, is privately funded as part of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Scholarship Program.
Mr Ross said the scholarship program helped support young people in the area to achieve their dreams.
“Our young people are our future and their development is critical to this community’s success,” he said.
“Many students in our surrounding area have big dreams for their future careers and we’re hoping that with the right support they might be able to bring those skills back to their hometown one day.”
