POLICE are continuing to hunt for the driver who dumped a fatally shot Berwick man and a critically injured Upper Beaconsfield man at a local hospital over the weekend.
The 23-year-old man, believed to have suffered from a single gunshot wound, was worked on by hospital staff but died after being left outside Casey Hospital’s emergency department shortly before 1am on Saturday (11 April).
Police released a CCTV image of the car believed to have dropped the fatally injured man, along with a critically injured 24-year-old man from Upper Beaconsfield, out front of the hospital in the early hours of the morning.
The vehicle is believed to be a white VE Holden Commodore sedan. The driver, described as Caucasian, in his twenties with a thin build and clean-shaven face, then drove away.
Detective Inspector Mick Hughes said the driver, who appeared to have an injured arm, was being urged to come forward.
“If he is listening, we ask that he contact police,” he said.
The crime scene was quickly cordoned off by forensic teams. Inspector Hughes said the men were known to police and were believed to be “associates”.
“We’re working on a principle that the incident probably happened reasonably close to the hospital,“ he said.
“If it’s a friend or an associate, you’re probably going to take him to the closest hospital.“
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and anyone with any information should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
