A NOTORIOUS Dalmore intersection was again the scene of a serious traffic accident this week, leaving a woman trapped in her car.
The two-car crash occurred at the intersection of Dalmore Road and Manks Road just after 4pm on Monday 13 April when police said a car carrying two elderly people failed to give way.
The female passenger became trapped after the car veered into an open drain.
Pakenham SES media liaison officer Shayne Honey said that the circumstances of the rescue made it especially difficult.
“Due to the passenger’s suspected spinal injuries, volunteers from the Pakenham SES and Nar Nar Goon CFA were required to stand in the muddy drain and remove the passenger side of the car to free the female passenger while the male driver was freed after the driver’s door was removed.”
Both occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital by ambulance.
Mr Honey also took the opportunity to remind drivers to use caution in the area.
“Volunteers from the Pakenham Road Rescue Crew again plea for drivers to take care, not only at the Dalmore Road/Manks Road intersection, where they have been called to a number of times recently, but on all shire roads are an increase in serious road crashes recently.”
Earlier this year, the Gazette reported that Cardinia Shire Council had applied for funding to improve the dangerous intersection in August 2014.
The funding would be used to realign Dalmore Road at Manks Road and create a double offset staggered T-intersection.
The project cost is estimated at $343,000.
Monday’s collision was the third incident in four days attended by the Pakenham Road Rescue Crew.
