CLIFF Heath’s name was inadvertently left out of last week’s report on pennant bowlers who scored the magical ‘eight’ in the season just finished.
Cliff is one of the three bowlers who earned their badges using a ‘bowling arm’. Bowling arms are a mechanical device which prolongs the bowling careers of bowlers who suffer from back, shoulder, knee or hip ailments.
The arms are becoming more and more popular throughout the bowling fraternity, so much so that some clubs are holding tournaments for arm bowlers only and Bowls Victoria is offering special coaching sessions for users.
Before using the arm, bowlers must have medical evidence of their condition.
The Cardinia Waters Club has six bowlers using the arm and have purchased two of the aids for bowlers to try out before purchasing one.
The next big event on the club’s bowls calendar is the annual general meeting scheduled for Wednesday 13 May. Their are five vacancies on the general committee and others to be elected are pennant selection, match and competition committees. A social committee will also be elected.
Nomination forms are now available and it is hoped that all vacancies will be filled. Social bowls will continue through the autumn and winter seasons.
