It’s charity on wheels

MEMBERS and supporters of Casey Rotary Club will raise a glass for the benefit of children in need later this month.
On 26 April, tour buses will make their way from Casey to the Yarra Valley, stopping at wineries and eventually for lunch.
The club hopes to raise $10,000 for children’s charity ‘Wheelchairs for Kids’, an organisation that makes and distributes wheelchairs to disabled children in developing countries.
Held in conjunction with the rotary club of Wandin, the lunch will feature live music, raffles and auctions to benefit the cause.
The buses will stop at multiple mystery wineries before heading to Five Oaks for lunch.
Casey Rotary’s Club’s John McGreal said that he hopes the day will receive the same strong support as previous events.
“We find that the local community really gets behind events like this,” he said.
“We’ve already had to book more buses to keep up with ticket sales, so we’re hoping for a high fundraising total.”
The club raised about $4500 from last year’s winery tour.
The event has already received support from local businesses, including from Harry Hutchinson Harry’s Clothing in Berwick, but is looking for further local sponsorship.
‘Wheelchairs for Kids’ started in Surfers Paradise in 1998 and has since donated over 30,000 custom-built wheelchairs to children around the world.
Tickets to the event cost $95 which includes lunch, drinks and the bus fare. They may be booked through John McGreal on 0403 118 854.
