THE Anzac spirit is living on among the shire’s younger generations with dozens of students gathering to honour those who gave their life for the country.
Prep through to Year 12 students from Maranatha Christian School in Officer gathered together to hear a touching story of service and courage by principal Dr Roderick Crouch whose grandfather fought at Gallipoli at an Anzac centenary ceremony last Friday.
A parent, who served 10 years in the Australian Defence Force, also shared his experiences with the school.
“Service is a key component of the school, for we believe that when you give to others, you gain so much more knowing you have left the world a better place. This was the
attitude of the Anzacs, and we give thanks to God for the sacrifice and service of so many as we commemorate the 100th anniversary of Anzac Day,” Dr Crouch said.
The address informed and inspired students with stories of overseas deployment, the life lessons learnt while enlisted and the great bonds formed and maintained with others who also served the nation.
War poetry was also recited by senior school students before wreaths were laid by members of the junior school.
