STATE champions are springing up in all age groups at Pakenham-based martial arts dojo JG Cia Paulista Australia Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Sending his best athletes to the recently held Victorian Championship, instructor Jhunior Guarnido was amazed at how impressive the local community’s jiu jitsu ranks compared to the rest of the state.
Not only did the Pakenham jiu jitsu community hold its own against the more experienced dojos around the state, but they excelled and thrived on the elite competition, with 10 of his students picking up significant honours including state titles.
To excel within Victoria – especially from a brand new dojo in Pakenham – amazed Guarnido and he was extremely pleased of his squad and how much they have achieved in such a short time frame.
“I’m very proud of all our guys – they fought very well and I have just had my gym less than one year and already have 10 of the best athletes in the state,” Guarnido said.
“It makes me very proud of the guys and to see how they’ve improved their jiu jitsu.”
One of their athletes – John Chippendale – has impressed the Australian jiu jitsu ranks enough to earn a ticket to the World Championships in Long Beach, California next month.
