Visitors drawn to test of skills

DROUIN GOLF
THE Drouin Golf Club’s annual tournament attracted visitors from 26 clubs over the duration of the event.
The tournament started last Tuesday with the ladies stroke event. Thirty six ladies contested this event. The winner of the Geoff and Irene Thomas Scratch Trophy was Shirley Roberts (Pakenham) with 88 off the stick. Winner of A Grade was Kay Feaver with a net 77 and the runner-up was Shelley Buick with 78 on a countback.
The winner of B Grade was Cheryl Deppeler (Trafalgar) with 72 nett. Runner-up was Sue Hatfield with 76 on a countback. C Grade was won by Sue Menzel (Pakenham) with a nett 73. Runner-up was Julie Keeble with 83.
Down the line balls went to Lorna Hoskins, Judy Bibby, Debbie Huyskens and Leanne Pollard.
Nearest the pin on the fifth was Nicole Fielding (Cheltenham), on the eighth Debbie Huyskens (Garfield), on the 10th Shirley Roberts (Pakenham) and the 14th Lorna Hoskins.
Wednesday had men’s and ladies’ stableford events. The ladies was won by Karen Lewis-Williams with a great 40 points. Runner-up was Dagma Forbes with 36 points on a countback.
A Grade was won by Bob Ramage with 40 points and the runner-up was Simon Appleby with 39 on a countback. B Grade was won by Max Corby 42 and the runner-up was Bruce Salmon with 40. C Grade was won by David Grafton with 41, runner-up was Jim McCormack with 40.
Nearest the pins on the fifth was Rob Piner, the eighth was David Banfield, the 10th was John Wolswinkel and the 14th was Kevin O’Brien. Down the line balls went to George Shand, Marcus Foote, Mick Whitford, David Low, Brian Maunder, Jason Stirzaker, Richard Ford and Anthony Appleby.
Thursday was the 4BBB stableford event for both men and women.
The winners of A Grade ladies were Sue Rose and Lyn Morrison from Warragul with 41 points. Runners-up were Wendy Hitchins and Pat Alexander with 39. B Grade winners were Olive Reid and Pam Soutar with 46, runners-up were Mary Gargan and Wendy Wilcox from Warragul with 45.
Down the line balls went to Monica Gidley and Ann Roberts 43, Lorna Hoskins and Edna Cropley 43, and Val Johnson and Vanessa Campbell with 42.
Nearest the pin on the fifth was Kay Feaver, on the eighth was Maree Thompson (Mirboo North), on the 10th was Joan Johnson (Warragul) and the 14th Heather Sullivan (Woorayl).
In the men’s event, the winners of A Grade were Lea Caldwell and George Shand with 46 points, runner-up was Tom Carroll with 44 points. The best score of the day was in B Grade with the team of Max Websdale and Jason Davis with 47. Runner-up was Shane Gorman with 44 points. Down the line balls went to Jim Bethune and Rob Hedley 43 and Paul Davie and Marcus Foote with 43 points. Nearest the pin on the fifth and the 10th was Graham Rawson and on the 14th was Peter Downward.
We had a great day on Anzac Day, the forecast wet weather didn’t arrive until after we had completed our round.
A Grade scratch was won by Wayne Bettiol (RACV) and Olivia De Marchi (Heidelberg) with 76 off the stick. A Grade handicap was won by Kevin Thorpe and Audrey Farthing with 69 nett, and the runners-up were brother and sister combination of Davis Wigg (Cheltenham) and Sue Hatfield with 73.25.
B Grade scratch was won by Doug and Pip Holloway (Rosanna) with 88. The winners of the handicap event was Vin Bibby and Pam Soutar 73.5 and the runners-up were Terry and Chris Ronalds with 75.5.
The Visitors Trophy went to Tom and Sue Traill (Mirboo North) 74.125. Down the line balls went to Kay and Gavan Feaver, Phil and Karen Adams, Duart Perrin (Trafalgar) and Carol Stephen (Warragul), Terry Garrett (Garfield) and Karen Mc Gregor (Trafalgar), Graham Austin and Cheryl Deppeler (Trafalgar) and Tom Carroll and Marg Rowe.
Nearest the pins for ladies on the fifth was Sue Traill (Mirboo North), on the eighth was Leesa Matthews (Garfield), on the 10th Alison Winthrope (Kew) and on the 14th was Carol Stephen (Warragul).
Nearest the pin on the fifth was Willem Muller, on the eighth was Paul Pelzer (Centenary Park), on the 10th Steve Kohut (Garfield) and on the 14th Kevin Thorpe.
On Sunday men’s stroke day was played. A Grade scratch over 36 holes was won by Mark Allen with 155. Handicap winner with 70+74=100 was Stan Gajdobranski. The 18 holes am was won by Peter Downward and 18 holes pm was won by Brad Bennett.
B Grade, played over 27 holes, was won by Ray Morgan on a countback from visitor Alan Bowler (Mirboo North). Handicap winner for the 27-hole event was Warren Cook with 109 nett. The 18-hole event was won by Geoff Searle and the nine hole pm was won by Alan Bowler.
The C Grade scratch went to Stuart Low with 88 off the stick. The handicap winner was Geoff Searle with 74 on a countback from Rob Koppe. Rob however was the winner of nine holes out with 36 nett. Sam Clebney won nine holes in with 35.5.
Nearest the pin on the fifth was Kevin Thorpe, on the eighth was Peter Downward and on the 14th was Mark Allen.
LADIES
Tuesday 21 April held the first event of the annual tournament. It was ladies day and the stroke event was kindly sponsored by Drouin Home Timber and Hardware.
Winner of best scratch score was Shirley Roberts (Pakenham) with 88. A Grade winner was Kay Reaver with 77 nett. Runner-up on a countback was Shirley Roberts with nett 78. B Grade winner was Cheryl Deppler with nett 72, and Sue Hatfield was runner-up with nett 76. C Grade winner with nett 73 was Sue Menzel, and runner-up with nett 83 was Julie Keeble.
Nearest the pins went to Nicole Fielding (Victoria) on the 5th, Debbie Huyskins (Garfield) on the 8th, Shirley Roberts (Pakenham) on the 10th, and Lorna Hoskins (Drouin) on the 14th.
Down the line balls went to Lorna Hoskins 76, Judy Bibby 77, Debbie Huyskins 77 and Shelley Buick 78 on a countback.
Tuesday 28 April will be a stableford event in conjunction with the grandmother’s trophy, with the prizes donated by Leanne Pollard.
