Bridge gathers pace

CONGRATULATIONS to all members of the Berwick Bridge Club on another successful week of play.
On Friday 15 May, a 10 table Mitchell was played. In the North/South (N/S) division, Carole Westrip and Pam Taylor took out first place on 58 per cent, David Yoffa and Shirley Collins claimed second with 56.71 per cent and George Shand and Patricia Beazley third with 55.39 per cent. In the East/West (E/W) division, Corry Van Diemen and Jean Francis came first with 59.45 per cent, Mark Saunders and Rob Osborne second with 57.51 per cent and Sandra Spencer and Patrick Morgan third with 56.06 per cent.
On Monday 18 May, a 5 table Howell was played. Finishing in first position was Matthew Tiplady and Julie Day on 62.03 per cent, John Watson and Geoge Ashby were in second on 61.11 per cent and David Yoffa and Shirley Collins third on 55.55 per cent.
A 6 table Mitchell was played on Tuesday 19 May. Margaret Tinschert and Maureen Ingamells finished first in the N/S division with 56.99 per cent and Michelle Leach and Susan Hill second with 54.50 per cent. In the E/W division, Mervyn Peel and Robert Morley finished first on 62.99 per cent and Sandra Spencer and George Shand second with 57.49 per cent.
A 10 table Mitchell was played on Wednesday 20 May. Taking out first in the N/S division were Maggie Callander and Shirley Collins with 70.83 per cent, second were David Yoffa and David Happell on 57.87 per cent and third were Valerie Harmon and Melissa Nouza on 51.38 per cent.
In the E/W division, Heather Saunders and Terry Sheafe came first with 65.97 per cent, Alan Saultry and Jean Francis were second with 60.41 per cent and Dianne Nicol and Steven Thorne took third with 57.17 per cent.
The players look forward to another week of competition.
