Bridge club turns the tables

THE Berwick Bridge Club had another exciting week, beginning with Friday 5 June with 11 tables. First for N/S was Kathleen Wenczel and Pat Schelling with 61.64 per cent, followed by Rob Osborne and Steven Thorne on 56.18 per cent, and Elsie Cadman and Gwenda Preston coming third with 54.26 per cent. First for E/W was Dianne Nicol and Heather Saunders on 72.06 per cent, followed by Lyell Cooke and Ray Pearson on 64.21 per cent, with Sandra Spencer and Patrick Morgan on 56.13 per cent.
On Monday 8 June, it was a four-table Howell, with Fran Kerlin and Julie Day placing first on 68.75 per cent and Heather Saunders and Sandra Spencer coming second with 58.33 per cent.
Tuesday 9 June had a seven-table Mitchell, with first place for N/S going to Heather Saunders and Rico Fernandes on 65.38 per cent, and second going to Dorothy Scanlan and Bruce Greenland with 58.86 per cent. For E/W, Mervyn Peel and George Shand placed first on 65.77 per cent with Adelaide Metzer and Darby Kasia placing second on 58.69 per cent.
To round out the week, Wednesday 10 June was a nine-table Mitchell, with first place for N/S going to David Yoffa and David Happell on 65.27 per cent, second place going to Paul Pick and Barbara Pick on 60.18 per cent, with Faye Rowlands and Patricia Beazley placing third with 56.25 per cent. Dianne Nicol and Steven Thorne placed first for E/W with 68.28 per cent, with Gwenda Preston and Jan Smith placing second on 60.87 per cent, and Ian Heggart and Eric Huson placing third on 56/01 per cent.
