YOUNG athletes can apply for grants of $500 to help with the costs of competing in state and national events.
Young people find it difficult to meet the ongoing and significant costs associated with participation at sporting competitions, particularly those from regional areas.
Grants can contribute towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment for participation at the nominated championships.
Federal Flinders MP Greg Hunt is encouraging young athletes to apply for a grant.
“It is good to be able to nurture our talented local athletes and assist them in fulfilling their sporting ambitions,” he said.
“Playing sport is synonymous with the Australian way of life and it is excellent to see so many people of varying ages and sporting aspirations actively involved in their communities.”
Athletes aged 12-18 competing, coaching or officiating at an official national sporting organisation (NSO) endorsed state, national or international sporting championships or a School Sport Australia state or national championships are eligible to apply.
Applications for this funding round close 30 June. All applications should be received before the competition start date. For more information, please visit www.ausport.gov.au
