A BRAVE girl from Bunyip blessed with the fortune of good health made a recent donation to help others.
Monique Simioni, 11, cut off her long locks last week to donate to others with alopecia – a rare auto-immune disease that causes sufferers to lose their hair with no guarantee of regrowth.
The Grade 5 student at Bunyip Primary School made the brave decision after meeting another girl of similar age with alopecia and realising she was “lucky” to have her hair, according to her mum Kylie Simioni.
“She would complain about her hair being knotty, and when she met this girl she was inspired and realised how lucky she was to have hair in the first place,” she said.
Monique, who raised about $3000 for the chop, donated her hair and the funds to Princess Charlotte Alopecia Program run by the Variety Club charity last week.
She hoped the donation would be a gift that bolstered the confidence and hope of someone suffering from alopecia.
“I wanted to help out another person,” she said, adding she was lucky her hair would grow back.
Bunyip Primary School held a crazy hair day last week in support of Monique’s fund-raising efforts.
