EMERALD has continued its stellar start to the 2015 YVMDFL season, knocking off Powelltown by 35 points at home – 17.17 (119) to 13.6 (84) – to maintain top spot on the ladder.
The Bombers started with a real purpose, recording nine scoring shots in just the first quarter and another 10 in the second to lead by five goals at half-time.
If not for wayward kicking, Emerald would have stormed away with the contest – but the Bombers still asserted their dominance.
Caillin Porter continued a brilliant run of form to win the Kade Simpson Medal as the best on ground. The medal is named after the gun Carlton midfielder, and the younger brother of Emerald stalwart Ryan, and he presented it following the clash.
Dale Karacsonyi and Casey Thomsen were also superb, while John MacKay (5), Matt Livermore (3) and Nic Jansen (3) booted 11 goals between them.
In the other game of the round with local significance, Seville proved too strong at home for Gembrook Cockatoo, securing a 28-point win – 14.10 (94) to 9.12 (66).
Sam Martin kicked four for the Brookers, while Leigh Scott, Eamon Tomlin and Ricky Delphine were three of the side’s biggest standouts.
The fifth-placed Brookers will this week host Emerald in a blockbuster of a local rivalry at Gembrook.
