IF you think fine dining only comes with a trip into Melbourne, think again.
Beaconsfield brothers Blayne, Tyson and Chayse Bertoncello have recently taken out two major awards for their Beaconsfield restaurant ‘O.My’.
The restaurant features an exclusively degustation menu – a style of dining which focuses on sampling a variety of small and specialised dishes. The brothers pride themselves on using fresh ingredients to create quality tastes.
At the Hostplus Awards for Excellence on Monday night 20 July, the brothers were delighted to learn that they had taken out the award for best contemporary Australian restaurant in regional Victoria and Tasmania, as well as the major award for Restaurant of the Year in Victoria.
Tyson said the two years since the restaurant opened had seen diners embrace its contemporary style and unique tastes.
“When we first started up, people were walking in saying I just want a steak. All we were doing at the start was just trying to get people in the door,” he said.
“Now we’re finding that guests are embracing the food and really appreciating the dining experience.”
The Woods Street restaurant is now thriving and the brothers find their outer suburban location to be only a bonus.
“We’ve always lived and worked in this area and our gardens are local. It’s a great spot.”
Diners at O.My can choose from a four, six or eight course degustation menu, and can opt to be served with matching wines throughout the meal. The menu regularly changes to incorporate fresh, seasonal produce.
With the brothers all in their twenties, Beaconsfield diners can be sure there are big things in store.
“It was a really exciting night – we had no idea that we were going to win,” Blayne said.
“It’s a great honour to be chosen.”
