PERHAPS the only feeling better than winter woolies on a cold day is knowing that your scarf is helping to support children living in poverty.
Pakenham resident Karen Wood will spend the next year knitting and selling items including scarves as a fund-raiser for children in Nepal.
A longtime personal supporter of ChildFund, Karen felt compelled to do something more in the wake of this year’s devastating Nepal earthquake.
“I’ve made contributions to ChildFund for the past 35 years, but this is the first time I’ve held this kind of fund-raiser.”
“Nepal is going through a terrible time and there are a lot of people in great need.
“ChildFund provides essentials like food, clean water and sanitation.”
A self-confessed “knit-aholic” Karen hopes to raise $500 to donate over the 2015/16 financial year.
“I’m aware that people have other expenses and so I’ve chosen to stretch the fund-raiser over the whole year.
“If we can raise more that would be great and less would be fine too, anything that people can give will make a difference.”
Items knitted include jumpers, scarves, shawls and baby blankets.
