A MOTION-SENSITIVE baby monitor captured images of an intruder sneaking out of a Pakenham home vacated just minutes earlier by a heavily pregnant woman and child.
At about 7.45am on Monday 17 August, the 43-year-old Heritage Springs homeowner said he received a real-time, automated email showing a man exiting the front door of his home.
The man, who did not want to be identified, called his pregnant wife who reported leaving the home to take the 14-month-old child to day care less than five minutes before the screenshot was captured.
It is believed the intruder, between 30-40 years of age with a solid build, watched the 28-year-old woman as she left the home before stealthily sneaking through the garage door as it rolled to a close.
“We feel a bit violated. We are going to always make sure we drive off only when the door has closed all the way,” he said, describing the stress the incident had caused he and his wife who is currently one week overdue in the pregnancy.
It is believed the attempted burglar was disturbed by the man’s father-in-law, asleep in the cinema room, causing him to leave without taking anything.
Police said the man was wearing a white T-shirt and black pants during the intrusion.
The Pakenham man said the recent incident wasn’t the first time his home was targeted by crims.
Around six months ago, the home’s alfresco area was raided, with a number of alcoholic drinks taken from the bar fridge along with credit cards stolen from a car parked inside their garage.
