THREE Officer students have taken out second prize in a robotics design and programming competition.
Maranatha Christian School students Phillip Viviers, Henrico Eybers and Jacques Mouton were among 13 students who competed in the Robocup Junior Educational State Finals at the University of Melbourne on Friday 21 August.
The competition is part of an educational program that invites students to design and program robots.
The trio placed second in the final of the Generation II Division for Lego robots up to one kilogram. Students had to create two robots that were able to compete in a soccer game against an opposing pair in a table tennis sized field.
Maranatha also entered teams into the Simple Simon Soccer division.
The program encourages a mix of engineering and IT skills as well as sportsmanship, teamwork and organisational skills.
The Generation II Division is a qualifier for the World Robot Olympiad, a competition involving students from 30 countries around the world.
RoboCup competitions are held throughout Australia each year.
