A LOCAL aerobics team will take on the best in Australia next week when they attend the national championships.
Next Thursday 17 September, four girls from Pakenham Secondary College will compete in the Australian Aerobics Gymnastics Championships at the Ulumbarra Theatre in Bendigo.
The team placed third in the state championships to make it to the national round and will be competing in the Level Three Intermediate Group.
Coach Emily Keegan said the squad’s training regime consisted of strength, cardio and flexibility work as well as routine practise.
“The team has worked really hard this year,” she said.
“We had three teams, each training up to twice a week, who competed at the state championships and one team has made it through.
“They’ve been training since early March.”
Pakenham Secondary has entered teams into the competitive aerobics competitions for the past four years and have made it to nationals in 2014 and 2015. Emily said the school was largely to thank for the success of the program.
“The college has been wonderful in supporting the students to achieve their personal best,” she said.
“Staff really rally around them and offer lots of encouragement and support and are truly proud of them.”
