Scouts’ night of nights

THE Cardinia District Scouts Annual Reports and Awards evening was held on Wednesday 16 September at Nar Nar Goon Primary School.
Many district Scouts were present to hear the reports of the Joey Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Venturers before Orianna Allen gave a guest presentation on the World Jamboree.
She gave insight into her experience attending the worldwide event, which saw 30,000 youth meet in Japan. She also spoke about the Asian Pacific meeting held recently in the district.
Elise Spargo presented the Rover Report and Aiden Dowell presented a certificate from the Carols by Candlelight Committee to District Commissioner Darren Spargo.
During his District Commissioner’s Report, Darren referred to the fact that there were District leaders at all levels and that this was not the case in all Scout districts.
Cardinia District continues to grow and there are challenges for groups to help each other.
Darren commented that he became Citizen of the Year 2015 and that Scouting created citizens and strength in the community.
The following people were appointed to the District Association for 2015-’16:
Chairperson Graeme Legge, secretary Olive Elston, treasurer John Gillespie, and member Ian Venables.

Following the presentation of the awards, International Commissioner Lisa Pickering delivered a speech to thank the district for their work at the APR forum as well as to share her international experiences in scouting.
