THE WGCA hierarchy is concerned about the current structure of its three senior competitions, Premier, District and Sub-District, and will meet on Monday 30 November to discuss some viable options going forward. All three grades have issues with competitiveness right now with CRANBOURNE MEADOWS (Premier), NAR NAR GOON/MARYKNOLL (District) and LANG LANG and SFX OLD COLLEGIANS (Sub-District) all winless after five rounds. The District competition consists of just six teams this season which is also not a good look for the WGCA. The association will meet and then go back to the clubs with their ideas.

UNBELIEVABLE. To the idiot in the silver car, registration number WSY … , who sped through the gap between the social rooms and the oval fence at PAKENHAM’s front ground at Toomuc Reserve on Saturday, you’re lucky you’re not in jail! This idiot refused to acknowledge the pleadings of the PAKENHAM D Grade team to slow down, instead continuing his intended journey at speed and just missing two children who were playing nearby. The one-fingered salute that emerged from the back-seat passenger didn’t endear the group to the players either.

KOOWEERUP openers Chris O’Hara and Michael Giles can lay equal claim to the Demons’ recent run of success – that’s if their run-scoring feats are anything to go by. In this the seventh season of the eight-team Premier Division competition, it’s quite remarkable that both O’Hara and Giles are currently locked on the exact same number of runs (3089). They sit joint second behind PAKENHAM gun Chris Smith (3276).

THE WGCA has had to settle for handing out warnings to the three players involved in the alleged melee that took place in the G Grade clash between CLYDE and CATANI at Hillcrest College on Saturday 7 November. Eye-witnesses have told Cricket Snicks that punches were thrown, but a lack of evidence provided by the two clubs left the WGCA with very little room to move. Another unsavoury incident is rumoured to have taken place at an Under 12 game last Friday afternoon.

THE strangest things happen in outright victories. Our eyes don’t deceive us surely – Mick Floyd – DEVON MEADOWS tail-end specialist – opening the batting in the second innings against NAR NAR GOON/MARYKNOLL? His fortress-like two ensured the Panthers found their way towards the big outright chase of 20.

CONGRATULATIONS to the DDCA Under 21s as the reigning premiers defeated Diamond Valley CA at Hallam Rec Reserve under new coach Craig Slocombe. Final scores were – DDCA 186 off 38.3 overs (Lachlan Lawrence, Berwick – 47, Travis D’Souza, Parkfield – 27, Joe Barrett, Parkfield – 25, Matthew Jameson, Doveton North – 21 and Joel Robertson, Coomoora – 20) defeated Diamond Valley 128 off 37.2 overs (Travis D’Souza – 3/7 off 8 overs, Jagveer Hayer, Hallam KP – 2/19 off 7 overs and Hussain Ali, Buckley Ridges – 2/20 off 5 overs). The Under 21s now play Ringwood District CA at Russell Lucas Oval, Ringwood (Melway 49 H10) next Sunday 22 November starting at 11am.

TURNING into a bit of a golden summer for TOORADIN’s Kane Latham, as the Subbies maestro has punished with the bat – including a two-run-a-ball century against KALGIDHAR to give him 216 runs at 72 – and ball to snare 11 wickets as well. It puts the Subbies Seagull into both top five charts in the division. Not bad going so far.

IT’S been too long without a look into the stats of everyone’s favourite Ex-West Gippsland, pseudo-cricketer Trevor McGeachin. The CARLISLE PARK VIKING turned PEACEDALE Panther has maintained his stoic, yet unconventional batting manner in his new Mornington Peninsula digs. From his four innings this season – including a remarkable District Firsts debut of stumped for one at number 10 – The Geach has nine runs to his name at an average of 2.25. Talk about Mr. Consistency!
