A FLOCK of fashionable racegoers meant judges had their work cut out at the 2015 Pakenham Cup Fashion on the Field over the weekend.
Midi skirts, bright florals, lace and vibrant patterns were popular among the women who made it to through to the hotly-contested final of the ‘Lady of the Day’ event.
But it was Karlie Owen, wearing an outfit featuring some of her own designs that stood out from the crowd and was awarded the coveted sash from the judges.
Karlie, from Cranbourne South owns and designs custom millinery headpieces for label ‘Jettah and Till Design.’ She wore a spectacular fascinator of her own design along with a patterned dress from popular label ‘Sheike’.
Originally intended for Oaks Day, Karlie said she had slightly modified her headpiece for the occasion.
“I don’t enter Fashions in the Field that often, but I did enter at Stony Creek Racing earlier this year and I was very happy to win there too,” she said.
“There were so many gorgeous outfits at Pakenham; all the ladies looked fabulous.”
Her prize included vouchers for various health and beauty services, a pair of Ray-ban sunglasses and a box of flowers.
Karlie was at Pakenham supporting her parents, who breed racehorses, and narrowly beat Belinda Smith and Alicia Simonds, who placed in second and third respectively.
Other awards on the day went to Suzanne Brown for ‘Mature Lady of the Day’, Cameron Wakefield for ‘Best Dressed Gentleman’ and the Smit family for ‘Best Dressed Family.’
