Disaster convoy fills need

Fifty-four vehicles met in Officer on Australia Day.

THERE’S nothing more Australian than helping a stranger in need, and that’s exactly how 100 volunteers spent their 2016 Australia Day.
Need for Feed Disaster Relief is a program established with the aim of getting disaster-affected farmers back on their feet by providing them with donated hay, animal food and other essentials.
On 26 January 54 trucks and vehicles from around Victoria and interstate met at Officer carrying at least $70,000 worth of hay, dog food, cat food, horse gear, chicken feed, concrete and human food.
They were headed to Scotsburn – a town 16 kilometres from Ballarat where a December bushfire claimed 12 homes.
In recognition of their generosity, the convoy was met with a three-car police escort through Ballarat to Buninyong where they were hosted by the local Lions Club for lunch before being dispatched to 41 local farms.
The donation was co-ordinated by the Lions Club with the Shire of Moorabool.
