LAST Saturday was Pink Day at Pakenham Cricket Club, with the annual fund-raiser for the Jane McGrath Foundation being held.
More than one hundred ladies donned their best pink outfits for the luncheon and afternoon of fun and games, but the serious reason for the get together was never far from their minds. Guest speaker for the day was Lisa Kidd, a Beaconsfield local who teaches at the primary school there.
Still in her early thirties, Lisa detected a lump in her breast after the birth of her son. She had a mastectomy, as doctors found the tumour was very aggressive, followed by chemo treatment.
She then had her other breast removed as she was found to be carrying a similar gene to that of Angelina Jolie, but in Lisa’s case it was even more severe.
She decided to have her ovaries removed but realised she was pregnant with what she calls her ‘miracle’ baby.
She had the operation after her second son was born. This young woman, along with her family, remains strong, determined and an inspiration to all who hear about her incredible battle.
Over $4000 was raised on the day, with players from all grades wearing pink caps to support the cause. Even Premier umpires, Mick Meeng and Dave Webster, got in on the act by donning pink shirts.
The hardworking committee are to be congratulated on doing such a great job in organising this special day, and everyone looks forward to a bigger and better day next year.
