A BERWICK hospital helped raise awareness for a disease with a harrowing survival rate for women.
Teal was the colour of the day at St John of God during the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day at the hospital on Wednesday 24 February.
An afternoon tea, joined with hospital caregivers and obstetrician Dr Rudy Lopes, helped spread awareness for the disease – while teal-coloured cakes and treats were available to sweet-tooths seeking to help fund the cause.
Dr Lopes urged women to learn about the signs and symptoms associated with the cancer which statistically kills more than 50 per cent of the almost 1500 women diagnosed each year.
“With no early detection test, it is so important that women know the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer and their family history,” a statement from the hospital read.
