VOLUNTEERS helping keep the spirit of the Berwick Mechanics’ Institute and Free Library alive were thanked at the recent annual general meeting event.
The library group celebrated 153 years during the event, on Wednesday 9 March.
Past president of the Berwick RSL Ray Heathcote was guest speaker at the annual meeting, which saw the long-term service of Barbara Jackson awarded with a 30-year service badge.
Honorary treasurer Graham Hughes thanked the library’s willing volunteers for their efforts to “keep the library a viable operation for the benefit of the community at a cost saving of several hundred thousand dollars”.
The 2015 financial summary was reported during the meeting, revealing the library had reduced its annual nett deficit from $9010 in the previous financial year to $2969 for the 12-months.
