LESBIAN, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) communities and organisations working to integrate people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in Bass and Gembrook will be offered State Government support for the first time.
The LGBTI Multicultural Grants, totalling $500,000 over four years, hope to support LGBTI groups to become more inclusive of people from different backgrounds.
Labor Member for Eastern Victoria Region Daniel Mulino MP hopes the grant will help the region’s LGBTI community, known to experience higher levels of anxiety, depression and significantly higher rates of suicide compared to heterosexual counterparts.
“The new grants will provide LGBTI communities and organisations with the extra support they need to ensure Victorians live free from discrimination, no matter their background,” he said.
The state-wide grant is managed through the Community Harmony Grant and Capacity Building and Participation programs.
Relevant groups wishing to better integrate culturally diverse LGBTI people in the Gembrook or Bass region are urged to apply for funding.
