LAID at the foot of Kooweerup’s cenotaph were floral offerings by a community silenced in remembrance for the brave men and women who have served the country at war over the decades.
The Anzac dawn service saw veterans and families walk the Avenue of Honour, led by a piper, onto a large memorial plaque etched with the names of local service personnel never to be forgotten.
Together, marchers stood in front of the plaque to salute those who served at war from towns within Cardinia Shire, before walking on to the cenotaph where a moment of silence was observed.
The moving commemoration was led by the catafalque party which was provided by Royal Australian Navy personnel from HMAS Cerberus.
Kooweerup RSL President Ron Ingram and Vice President Geoff Stokes were among those who spoke at the remembrance event attended by Federal Flinders MP Greg Hunt.
Poppies and flowers were laid at the foot of the town cenotaph following the service and remained there as a reminder to the community of the sacrifices remembered every Anzac Day.
After the ceremony, some 800 people came together to enjoy a gunfire breakfast.
