Stolen copper cable stalls trains

Copper wire stolen from a nearby business unravelled onto the train line, halting oncoming carriages for a while

A BURGLARY blunder in Beaconsfield saw trains halted in the morning peak on Monday 25 April.
Police said two unknown suspects attempted to steal two large spools of copper wiring from a Station Street Beaconsfield premises before 7.30am.
As the suspects drove from the site, the cable came off the spool and began unravelling on the train tracks.

Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) Detective Senior Constable Trudy Neylan said the scene unfolded before a worker who spun into action to cut the wire before the train crossed the tracks.
However, the train system was still brought to a complete stop for a short period as a safety precaution.
Police are searching for the two suspects.
