Art show draws top judges

Cardinia Cultural Centre manager Mark Fawcett will judge the Yakkerboo Art Show.

IT IS no easy task!
From a field of 500 artworks the Yakkerboo Art Show judges need to select 19 prize winners for the $8000 in prize money.
The winners will be announced at the Opening Night on 27 May.
This year the job has been given to Cardinia Cultural Centre manager Mark Fawcett and Senior Lecturer at Federation University Australia Mary Hollick.
Growing up in Yallourn in the Latrobe Valley, Mark Fawcett moved to the UK after studying arts at university to work in theatre management.
Returning to Australia and the City of Whitehorse’s Cultural Facilities he was head hunted in 2008 to manage the $28 million Mackay Convention Centre.
He now returns to Gippsland and is under contract to manage the Cardinia Culture Centre while delivering a business and marketing plan for the facility.
Mark has been able to entice some amazing acts to Pakenham.
Over the next six months these will include Los Vegas Club Acts, the world leading Elvis impersonator and the Italian Tenors.
Mary Hollick, although currently lecturing in business ethics and marketing, has a background in tourism, heritage management and educational programs for the Ballarat Gallery and NGV.
Prior to joining the University of Ballarat Mary worked at Sovereign Hill for more than nine years in the positions of Staff Development Officer and Curator of Social History.
Mary’s areas of interest and expertise include micro tourism enterprise skills development, pathology of tourism business failure, sustainable heritage management, tourism attraction management and visitor learning in museums.
Drawn to the interesting elements of the Yakkerboo Art Show, Mary is particular looking forward to the Wearable Art Parade at Opening Night.
“For our 40th year celebration our art show couldn’t be in more qualified and safer hands,” said President Jillian Ronald.
“The Pakenham Hall will be the place to be on the last weekend in May 2016.”
