Rammed police car ‘completely destroyed’

By ANEEKA SIMONIS

A MAN rammed a police car on the freeway in Berwick, likely writing-off the vehicle used to divert traffic at the request of a unit dealing with a separate criminal matter.
At 4.15am on Monday 9 May, police were directing traffic outbound at the Clyde Road off-ramps in response to diversion requested by a Casey policing unit.
As police were diverting traffic, a 26-year-old Berwick man came speeding up the freeway and rammed into the back of a parked police vehicle.
No police members were injured in the ramming, nor was the driver – however the damage caused by the silver Mitsubishi sedan was extensive.
The rammed police vehicle had signal lights flashing at the time of the collision.
Pakenham police Senior Sergeant Nathan Prowd said the impact of the crash was likely to have completely destroyed the vehicle.
The man underwent drug and alcohol tests at the scene and brought back negative results.
He has not been charged and police inquiries are ongoing.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
