Grants help put the heat on ice

CARDINIA community groups have been invited to apply for a State Government grant of up to $10,000 to help tackle local drug problems.
As part of the second round of the Community Ice Action Grants, the funding grants would support a range of local initiatives including workshops, forums, local campaigns, training for specific groups and engaging with young people.
Eastern Victoria Region MP Daniel Mulino said the action grants aimed to find “local solutions to local problems”.
“It takes a co-ordinated approach to stop ice and the Cardinia community can play a key role,” Mr Mulino said.
“Ice is a vicious drug and it’s having a disproportionate effect on regional and rural Victorians.”
The grants have been made available to Melbourne’s urban fringe growth areas, as well as rural and regional Victoria.
A previous 13 community groups in Victoria were successful in receiving the grant in the areas of health, sport and local safety.
Applications from community groups with a focus on disability, culture and sexual orientation were also encouraged to apply.
Community Ice Action Grants are part of the State Government’s Ice Action Plan which aims to support families, provide treatment for users, protect frontline workers, close down drug manufacturers and create a safer community.
Applications for Community Ice Action Grants close on 20 June. For more information, visit ice.vic.gov.au/fund-to-help-communities
