Ugly win for NBN

An NBN tower has been approved for Nyora.

AN NBN tower will be built in Nyora despite pushback by residents who fear the spire will impact the rural living landscape.
South Gippsland Shire Council initially rejected the application for an NBN tower on Forrest Drive, Nyora – but the decision was appealed at VCAT, which signed off on the project.
Objectors claimed the tower would have a “severe impact” on the character of the area – Cherry Tree estate – as well as detriment to surrounding biodiversity.
The matter was put to VCAT in May, which ruled the benefits of the tower outweighed adverse impacts raised by residents.
VCAT senior member Laurie Hewet approved the permit for the tower, stating the visual impact will be minimised.
It was found the tower would not contravene any environmental overlays, nor was it located “within the primary view corridor” of surrounding properties.
