Hour-long pursuit leads to arrest

A MAN and woman were arrested in Southbank after an hour-long police pursuit that began in Officer early Friday morning.
Pakenham officers witnessed a group of four people approach a convenience store on the Princes Highway at about 1.45am. The group fled the scene when police approached them.
Cardinia Highway Patrol attempted to intercept the suspected ‘getaway car’ but it sped off.
Police said the Air Wing was instrumental in monitoring the path of the car as it was pursued through three police regions overnight after first coming to the attention of police in Officer.
Police initiated a pursuit which travelled through a number of southern metropolitan suburbs, into eastern regions, through Launching Place, Lilydale and then onto the Maroondah Highway.
The silver Holden Captiva continued onto EastLink before the local pursuit was called off.
The Air Wing was able to continue monitoring the car from a distance, locating the Captiva in a car park near the intersection of Riverside Quay and Cook Street in Southbank.
Police with the assistance of the Dog Squad arrested the 25-year-olds as they exited the vehicle in the car park just after 3am.
The man and woman are assisting police with inquiries, and it is expected they will be interviewed in relation to reckless conduct endangering life and a number of traffic offences.
