More cattle at dearer market

THERE were about 500 export and 600 young cattle penned, representing an increase of 150 head week-on-week at the Victorian Livestock Exchange (VLE). There was a full field of buyers present and competing in a dearer market. Quality improved a little on the last sale, with a better selection of grain-assisted cattle on offer while there were still many grass cattle lacking finish. Vealers suited to butcher orders sold 10c to 20c/kg dearer. Yearling trade cattle sold 5c to 15c/kg dearer while some feeder cattle improved up to 20c/kg. Well finished grown steers and bullocks improved 15c to 20c/kg. Heavy weight crossbred manufacturing steers jumped 30c/kg.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butcher orders sold from 340c to 368c/kg. Yearling trade steers made between 326c and 356c/kg. Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 308c and 362c/kg. Feeder steers made from 305c to 350c with the heifer portion from 286c to 341c/kg.
Grown steers sold from 310c to 357c/kg. Bullocks made between 310c to 355c/kg. Heavy weight friesian manufacturing steers sold between 265c and 300c with the crossbred portion between 312c and 342c/kg.
