THE Beaconsfield Quilters Guild is busy sewing quilts for its third bi-annual Quilt Show.
More than 40 locally crafted contemporary and traditional quilts will be on display in Beaconsfield next month, some more old-worldly while others are more modern with bold colours and geometric patterns.
Beaconsfield Primary School Grade 5 and 6 students were given calico squares to paint their community heroes and the guild has sewn them together to create three of the quilts to be showcased at the exhibition.
Beaconsfield Quilters Guild member Joan Worsley said the guild encouraged people of all ages to explore the art of quilting.
“It’s a beautiful art form. It can be really simple or extremely detailed,“ Ms Worsley said.
“There will be raffles, store holders selling quilting goods, fabrics and cotton, as well as demonstrations for hand-quilting and needle-turn applique.”
Tea and coffee refreshments and cakes will be provided together with a sausage sizzle run by the CFA.
The Quilt Show runs from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 10 September at the Beaconsfield Neighbourhood Centre, 8 O’Neil Road, Beaconsfield.
Entry is a $6 donation with all proceeds going towards the Beaconsfield CFA. Children may enter free of charge. Attendees will also receive a free Leesa Chandler pattern upon entry.
The Beaconsfield Quilters Guild formed in 2010 and often makes quilts for patients at the Casey Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit.
